Report on Ishita Govil’s Bharatanatyam – Arangetram on 3rd April, 2010 at Azad Bhawan Auditorium, ICCR, IP Estate, New Delhi
Ishita Govil performed her Bharatanatyam – Arangetram on 3rd April 2010 at Azad Bhawan Auditorium, ICCR, IP Estate, New Delhi. Ishita Govil is a disciple of Dr Yamini Krishnamurti, the living legend of Indian classical dance.
She performed on stage in the presence of various dignitaries like the Chief Guest – Hon’ble Mrs Ambika Soni, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India, Guest of Honour - Dr Subas Pani, Chairman and Managing Director, India Trade Promotion Organisation and various senior educationists like Mrs Meenu Goswami, Shri KK Agarwal, Mrs Anita Paul.
The Lamp lighting was done followed by the performance. She performed with lot of grace and confidence. She started with Vinayaka Kavuthvam, Jatiswaran and Devi Stuti. In between during the intermission a biographical film on her Guru Dr Yamini Krishnamurti was screened depicting her great achievements and epic performances. After this, Ishita performed Varnam which was a superb performance from her. This was followed by Madhura Madhuram and Tillana. The Azad Bhawan Auditorium having a capacity of 340 seats was full.

Vinayaka Kavuthvam : In Raga Nata & Tala Adi. Invocatory beginning, in praise of Vinayaka the remover of obstacles: followed by Alarippu in Tala Tishram.
Jatishwaram: In raga Malika & Tala Mishram. A more lyrical and less ritualistic dance of pure movements: elegant intricate and impassioned
Devi Stuti (Manikya Veena) : in Raga Malika followed by Keertana-Sringara Lahari. Raga Neelambari & Tala Adi. Presents the concepts of divinity as Mother. Beginning with the portrayal of the Goddess playing on the Veena
Intermission
Varnam: In Raga Bhairavi and Tala Roopakam the Nayika’s infatuation for her divine lover – Brihadeeshvara, the presiding Deity at Tanjore.
Madhura Madhuram: In Raga Attana & Tala Adi. The sound of music when it is the flute-song of Krishna, becomes the “ Sweetest of the sweet”; “ Madhura – Madhuram”.
Tillana: In Raga Hindolam& Tala Roopakam. It is sculpture in movements and exemplifies all three elements of classicaldance speed, stability and line.
